SEATTLE (NEWS 10) – A cracker night is coming down this Friday as city officials hope to crack down on a citywide epidemic of crack cocaine overdoses and other drug related deaths.
“Our message to drug users is this: use it responsibly,” Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole said Friday afternoon. “That’s what we’re going to be focusing on as we have every year since 1994 or earlier. That is where our focus is this year.”
Officials expect thousands of drug users to take part in the “cracker night” and police have sta더킹카지노rted a cracker tracking service to track the streets of East Seattle.
In 2012, there were more than 13,500 overdoses of prescription painkillers and nearly 9,400 overdose deaths.
“The increase in the number of overdose deaths due to prescription opioids continues unabated, and more people die from prescription painkiller overdoses than any other drug used in Seattle streets, ” O’Toole said.
“It’s important for us all to be vigilant that we understand what the problem is and that we provide information so that we can create a plan for recovery,” she added.
O’Toole said police are still working with the King County Sheriff’s Office to track the street drugs down.
